IMG_3548I do not have a green thumb…so it’s a good thing that you don’t need to have one with a terrarium! I have this cool jar in my kitchen…it’s typically filled with Cocoa Puffs…not that there’s anything wrong with Cocoa Puffs! This is my healthier…and much cooler…version of the Cocoa Puff jar…

This is what you will need:

  • Glass jar with a lid
  • Rocks (I got mine at a dollar store)
  • Potting soil
  • Charcoal soil conditioner
  • Plants that enjoy moisture and humidity (the top 3 items I got at a nursery)
  • Small accessories ( I used some old china that had chipped that I couldn’t bear to part with!)
  • Garden scoop

I’m not going to lie…I had to redo this 3 times…yes, 3 times! The 3rd time was the charm…and I’m sure the next terrarium will be super easy!! It’s all about the layering.

  • Start with small rocks in the bottom for drainage. I started with a larger rock in the middle, as my jar was gynormous!

  • As I added the rocks I placed the broken china around the edge inside. (It won’t be perfect because the little rocks like to sneak their way in front!)
  • Next…sprinkle a thin layer of the charcoal over the top. The charcoal is horribly messy…it’s a good idea to wear a disposable glove.
  • Add a good layer of potting soil.
  • Now…the plants! Depending on your jars opening this can be a little tricky. I used some tongs to help place the plants.
  • For the finishing touches I added a little more broken china…and a sparkly rock just for my granddaughter, Gracie!
  • Water…put the lid on…go on vacation (I did!)…a week later it was still gorgeous!

As of late coffee tables have been heavily on the mind for me. It might have to do with the fact that my current coffee table situation is a disaster. A makeshift table that moves anytime you touch it…even if you think about touching it…it’s done for! So here is a roundup of inspiration for the coffee table I really want in my living room.

West Elm Coffee Table

Lets talk about how much of a sucker I am for this marble pedestal table. It has two of my favorite things(marble and gold)! It’s a beautiful simple piece that  finishes the room.

I absolutely love that these hexagon tables come in different sizes and colors so you can mix and match for the perfect fit! Depending on your space you can make it larger or smaller to fit your needs.

Anthropologie Coffee Table

I could just stare at this natural wood table all day because it makes me happy!

Newell+Coffee+Table

The perfect combination of glam and natural with the Newell coffee table. Great for when you need more table space while entertaining, and easy to tuck away when not needed.

PotteryBarn I love that this gold drum table gives a substantial feel when I look at the room. It doesn’t need much to be styled with, can get a little banged up, and still look great.

CB2

Using two side tables gives you the freedom to arrange them however you want. It is great for a smaller space that doesn’t need anything too large.

Hope you could find some table inspiration with my latest hankerings!

xoxo

Remember that one time I disappeared…and it had been so long that I almost forgot how to even blog?!?! That was a rough moment. The good news, I am back and haven’t forgotten! Sorry it took me so long(Mom)! I felt a lot of pressure that when I wrote again that it needed to be an amazing post and that I needed to prove I was awesome…but then I realized that was holding me back from getting back to it. So instead of studying for my real estate exam, I am thinking about how much I love this time of year and how much I enjoy my little blog that gets me thinking and creating differently than anything else does.

Also, I think everyone should think like this…
